A new initiative this festival the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference is excited to invite young film makers to share their creative juices in a new way as part of the Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2017.


ACYF Film Competition Poster smSubmissions are sought in a competition (Competition) for short films to be selected for a curated exhibition for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2017 (Festival).

To participate in the Competition, you must complete an Entry Application Form and agree to the Competition Conditions of Entry (which can be found on the Entry Application Form). Entry Application Forms can be downloaded and submitted at

Competition Criteria
Selection of the short film to be included in the exhibition will be based on the following criteria (Criteria):

The short film should reflect the Festival theme: Open new horizons for spreading joy: young people, faith and discerning vocations.

The short film should reflect the wider theological understanding of this theme

Film Specifications
• Short film should be no more than 3 minutes
• Video Format: MPEG-4 (MP4) format
• Aspect ratio: Native aspect ratio without letterboxing (e.g. 16:9)
• Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (16:9)
• Duration: up to 00:03:00
• Maximum Data Size: 250MB

Preferred Requirements
• Max Bit rate: 5 Mbps
•  Video Track: MPEG-4 (MP4), 1920 x 1080, 25 fps, 4.5 Mbps
•  Audio Tracks: MPEG-4 Audio stereo, 48 kHz, 128 kbps

• The Competition is open for filmmakers from Year 9 to 30 years of age.
• You must select 1 of the following 2 categories for your Entry:
• Students (Year 9 - Year 12)
• Young Adults (post- secondary school up to 30 years of age).
